Giannasi 1967: Milan’s go-to for roast chicken

Ask anyone in Milan the best place to buy rotisserie chicken, and they’ll point you to a kiosk on Piazzale Buozzi, between the Porta Romana and Piazzale Lodi. It’s been there since 1967, selling first uncooked chickens and turkeys and then roast chicken, potatoes and veg.

Owner Dorando Giannasi, recognisable by his trilby, cravat and elegant suits, arrived in Milan from Emilia at the age of fourteen and never went back.

He is an inventor, and his kiosk is the laboratory where he’s personalised many of the tools in his quest for a unique flavour and style of cooking. In this video, we spend a day with him and hear the story of his life.
